TGen is Trends Charitable fund 2019 benefiting charity.
The Trends Charitable Fund board selected to Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) as its beneficiary because of the institute’s innovative genomic technologies and focus on women and children. Phoenix-based TGen is a global leader in precision medicine, a rapidly evolving field that is transforming the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Specifically, the Trends Charitable Fund will provide much needed research dollars to two projects at TGen:
- TGen’s Center for Rare Childhood Disorders: After years of following diagnostic odysseys across the nation, and even other countries. TGen’s advanced genomic research is providing the answers and hope to hundreds of children. After arriving at TGen, often with just a collection of symptoms, TGen’s diagnoses help put physicians on the right track towards treating the most vulnerable among us.
- Women’s cancers: TGen-led research has discovered that mutations in a gene known as SMARCA4 drives a specific type of extremely aggressive ovarian cancer that most often affects girls and young women. TGEN found this “genetic superhighway” mutation in a gene common to the overwhelming majority of patients with small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type, also known as SCCOHT.
